And useful. I watched a biker cause a fender bender on my way home a two weeks ago. Unrelated to stoplights, he was kind of hogging a lane.

At least here in CA, as a cyclist you are allowed to take up a lane, so he wasn't necessarily in the wrong. I generally try to stay as far right as possible, but on rare occasions the extra space makes me feel safer (I only ride a few times a month, and can't actually recall the last time I used that privilege).

I'm pretty sure they're also allowed to do that here, but they still have to obey the laws of the road, including minimum speed limits which, in that case was 40 kph.
I suppose lane splitting would also help, since american lanes could easily fit two cars, let alone a car and a bike, while in Brazil they can barely contain one.
